Ligurian or Maritime Alps
The Ligurian and Maritime Alps offer interesting mixed climbing routes when you’re fortunate enough to catch the right conditions. These are less renowned routes, but they offer unique scenery and a decidedly wild and solitary environment.
Among the most classic lines are the Canale dei Genovesi on Marguareis or the Canale dello Scudo on Rocca dei Campanili, which run almost entirely on snow.
Moving up in difficulty, a climb not to be missed is the Diretta Biancardi on the North Face of Mongioie, which offers an elegant route with sections of mixed climbing and steep snow slopes.
For more experienced mountaineers, if you’re lucky enough to encounter the right conditions, Marguareis in its winter guise offers great mixed climbs in a serious alpine environment such as the Canale Nero, the Canale dei Pancioni, or the difficult Rose.
On these climbs you’ll find terrain and emotions similar to much better-known and feared north faces…
The activity takes place over two days: on the first day you reach the winter refuge. On the second day you set off early to tackle the chosen route and experience true winter mountaineering in the Southern Alps.
