Argentera or Sigismondi Ridge
Cima Sud dell’Argentera is the highest peak in the Maritime Alps. Located in the heart of the Maritime Alps Natural Park, it offers a wild environment with large gneiss walls and views stretching from the Alps to the Mediterranean Sea.
The climb along the normal route is a classic mountaineering itinerary that combines hiking with easy but exposed rock sections.
For those who already have climbing and mountaineering experience, the beautiful and airy Sigismondi Ridge is a must-do route.
How the experience works
The climb takes place over two days. On the first day, you set off from Pian della Casa del Re and, following a pleasant path, reach the welcoming Rifugio Remondino, where you will spend the night.
On the second day, you leave at dawn to tackle the climb to the summit. The route goes up through scree slopes in the valley to Passo dei Detriti and continues on rocky terrain with some climbing moves that lead to the summit of Argentera. From here, you can enjoy an extraordinary view of the entire Maritime Alps and the nearby Ligurian coast.
If you choose the Sigismondi Ridge, the first part of the climb is the same, but then you head for the obvious Colletto Freshfield where the most interesting part of the ridge begins. You then climb the long ridge with beautiful climbing, crossing the Purtscheller and Genova peaks and reaching the Cima Sud dell’Argentera.
The descent for both routes is via the normal route.
