Castor
Castor is one of the most elegant peaks in the Monte Rosa massif. At 4,223 meters, it offers a splendid glacier climb that represents a great classic of mountaineering. Ascending its characteristic snow ridge, sharp and aesthetic, you feel almost in the sky, suspended above the surrounding valleys.
The ascent of Castor is an ideal route for those who want to experience a true mountaineering adventure on a four-thousander. The route develops on glacier and snow slopes up to the spectacular final ridge, which leads directly to the summit with an incredible view of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and the Swiss Alps.
How the experience works
The ascent takes place over two days. On the first day, you depart from Gressoney-Staffal and, using the ski lifts, reach Colle di Bettaforca.
From here the trail winds first along the moraine and then along the rocky ridge, via a short equipped section. In about three hours you reach Rifugio Quintino Sella, where you spend the night.
On the second day, you depart at dawn to tackle the summit climb: you cross the Felik glacier until you reach the pass of the same name and finally traverse the elegant final snow ridge that leads to the 4,223-meter summit.
