Monviso
Monviso, with its unmistakable pyramidal shape, is one of the most elegant and recognizable mountains in the Alps, visible even from great distances across the Po Valley.
Its size and visibility led the ancient Romans to consider it the highest mountain in the Alps.
The ascent to the summit via the normal route is a great mountaineering classic and very popular. The East Ridge, more challenging and selective, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful rocky ridges in the entire Alpine arc.
How the experience works
The climb takes place over two days. On the first day, you start from Pian del Re and follow a scenic path to the Quintino Sella al Monviso Refuge, where you spend the night at the foot of the mountain.
On the second day, you set off at dawn to tackle the normal route or the more demanding East Ridge. Both routes are technically challenging and strenuous, but the summit—offering a vast panorama ranging from the Maritime Alps to Monte Rosa—is well worth the effort. Excellent physical fitness is required for both climbs. For the East Ridge, some experience in traditional rock climbing is recommended.
